Article Contribution to Packaging Technology Monthly

I’m pleased to announce that my paper appears in the February 2025 issue of Packaging Technology, the monthly journal of the Japan Packaging Institute. The feature highlights JAPAN STAR winners from the 2024 Japan Packaging Contest, and I was invited to write about my award-winning work—along with a few thoughts on branding.

アートディレクション及び、パッケージデザインを担当させていただいた「irogami grater」で、世界包装機構（WPO : World Packaging Organisation）が主催する、世界のパッケージコンテストにて、「WorldStar賞」を受賞いたしました。受賞者は、イタリア・ミラノでの授賞式に招待されることに。ドレスコードありのガラディナー。驚きと喜びでいっぱいです。

［ワールドスター賞とは］
WPOが承認した世界各国のコンテスト入賞作品にのみ、応募資格が与えられます。（日本の場合は、日本グッドパッケージングコンテスト入賞作品）
優れたパッケージデザインや技術を開発・普及することを目的としており、世界でも唯一無二のコンテストです。2025年の「ワールドスターコンテスト」は、世界50ヵ国から550以上の作品のエントリーがありました。

WorldStar Award for irogami grater

I’m thrilled to announce that irogami grater—for which I handled both art direction and package design—has won a WorldStar Award at the global competition run by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO). Winners are invited to a black-tie gala dinner in Milan, and I’m both amazed and grateful for this honor.

What is the WorldStar Award?
Only packages that have already won a WPO-approved national contest are eligible (in Japan, that means the Japan Good Packaging Contest).
The program exists to foster and showcase outstanding packaging design and technology.
The 2025 competition attracted more than 550 entries from 50 countries, making it a truly global benchmark.
