Overview

Tsuboe Original Chopsticks Wrap

Many of us have had moments when we thought,
“I would buy this if only the logo weren’t so prominent.”

A logo can influence—even overwhelm—the impression of a beautifully crafted product.
In many cases, keeping it understated makes the item more approachable and allows it to be cherished over a longer period of time.

For this reason, determining how prominently a logo should appear is an essential part of brand direction.

At kuriyama kaoru design, we oversaw the overall direction of the Chopsticks and Chopstick Rest Set and designed one of its key components, the Tsuboe Original / Made in Japan / Chopsticks Wrap.
The wrap was developed from the ground up, considering internal structure, dimensions, appearance when opened, and the tactile experience—ensuring it complements the quiet presence of Tsuboe’s tools without disturbing their character.
While maintaining a unified aesthetic for the entire set, our aim was to create a piece with a subtle presence that blends naturally into daily life, refining each detail with care.

Although the brand tag is intentionally placed on the reverse side of the facing, no detail was overlooked.
The silver thread, chosen to harmonize with the color of the canvas, catches the light with a subtle shimmer—adding an understated yet refined touch to the piece.

The material used is FUJIKINBAI®, a durable Japanese canvas with a beautiful natural texture, and sewing was carried out by Shionoya Sewing in Sanjo, Niigata.
We also designed the packaging for the chopsticks wrap, along with all other packaging elements that compose the set.

The set—Chopsticks and Chopstick Rest Set / irogami Chopsticks, Chopstick Rests, Cleaning Brush, and Chopsticks Wrap—was awarded the Good Design Award 2025.
By exploring the optimal relationship between form and function, we sought to create a quiet and dignified presence that reflects the spirit of Tsuboe’s tools.
